Familial spontaneous coronary artery dissection: evidence for genetic susceptibility.
IMPORTANCE Spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD) is a major cause of acute coronary syndrome in young women, especially among those without traditional cardiovascular risk factors. Prior efforts to study SCAD have been hampered by underrecognition and lack of registry-based studies. Risk factors and pathogenesis remain largely undefined, and inheritability has not been reported. OBSER...

Spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD) is a non-traumatic and non-iatrogenic separation of the coronary artery wall that is now recognised as an important cause of myocardial infarction, especially in younger women. SCAD can be elusive on coronary angiography and clinician familiarity with non-pathognomonic angiographic SCAD variants and the use of intracoronary imaging will improve diag...

We present a case of a 43-year-old lady who presented with an acute coronary syndrome, but without any cardiac risk factors or previous cardiac symptoms, and who had a spontaneous coronary artery dissection. This was successfully treated with percutaneous coronary intervention. A brief discussion of this clinical entity and literature review is presented.

It should be suspected in every healthy young woman without cardiac risk factors, especially during the peripartum or postpartum periods. It is important to check for a history of drug abuse, collagen vascular disease or blunt trauma of the chest. Coronary angiography is essential ...
